The Xlinks Morocco-UK Power Project is a proposal to create 11.5 GW of renewable generation, 22.5 GWh of battery storage and a 3.6 GW high-voltage direct current interconnector to carry solar and wind-generated electricity from Morocco to the United Kingdom. Morocco has been hailed as a potential key power generator for Europe as the continent looks to reduce reliance on fossi
The company – initially called Virmati Energy – has a pipeline of a further 270MW of battery storage project under exclusivity, as well as plans for 1.3GW of operational capacity by 2024. Amit Gudka, founder of Field, said it was exciting to be growing the company''s pipeline of battery storage sites.
Large-scale battery storage projects announced to date in Saudi Arabia include what has been described as the world''s largest off-grid BESS for a new luxury resort on the Red Sea Coast, a 536MW/600MWh system for the new-build Neom ''smart city'' development, and a solar-plus-storage off-grid project for another ''megatourism'' development
The projects, which are conditional on signing a capacity investment scheme agreement, are expected to commence operations by mid-2027. The CIS aims to encourage new investment in renewable energy dispatchable capacity, such as battery storage and generation from solar and wind, to meet growing electricity demand and fill reliability gaps as older coal
Solar battery options for your home Your solar PV system generates electricity to help power your home while the sun is shining. If you have a battery, you can store excess solar energy to use when the sun goes down. Lithium batteries are the most popular option for home batteries, as they can charge and discharge at a high rate.
The two projects are ''Avondale'' in Northern Cape which pairs 115MW of PV and 30MW of battery energy storage system (BESS) capacity, and ''Dassiesridge'' in Eastern Cape which combines 63MW of wind and 45MW of BESS. ''Early works'' have begun and construction will soon, with a commercial operation date (COD) expected around May 2025.
It then launched a solution offering local housing authorities a fully financed solar generation and smart battery storage solution, dubbed Solopower, in 2021. The Ipswich and Cambridgeshire projects take SMS'' total operational capacity to 140MW across three live projects. The company will continue to expand its portfolio having already
The project, won against stiff European EPC competition, includes around 30MWh of batteries spread across three sites with a single battery installation of 17MWh. The sites, located at an educational institution
We aim to quantify the impacts of a large-scale deployment of photovoltaic solar farms in the Sahara on global solar power generation as a pilot case study, and investigate the
The 63.3MW Calatagan Solar Farm, which was the largest in the country when it was commissioned in 2016. Image: Solar Philippines. The Board of Investments (BOI) in the Philippines has given a ''green lane certificate'' for a solar and storage project said to be the largest in the world, enabling it to proceed at a quicker pace.

Siemens or Siemens Gamesa have equipped all five wind farms in Western Sahara with turbines. Plans have seemingly also been issued for another solar plant at El Argoub, near Dakhla. In 2023, a study commissioned
OCP owns Phosboucraa, which exploits the phosphate reserves of occupied Western Sahara; Acwa Power intends to construct two wind farms in the territory, each of 100 MW on a total land base of 10,341 ha. Acwa has previously installed two solar plants in the territory: the 85 MW plant in El Aaiún and 20 MW plant in Boujdour;
But these developments have made Morocco partly dependent on Western Sahara for its energy supply. Morocco already gets 18% of its installed wind capacity and 15% of its solar from the occupied territory, and by 2030 that could increase to almost half of its wind and up to a third of its solar.
Large solar farms in the Sahara Desert could redistribute solar power generation potential locally as well as globally through disturbance of large-scale atmospheric teleconnections, according to simulations with an Earth system model.
Our Earth system model simulations show that the envisioned large-scale solar farms in the Sahara Desert, if covering 20% or more of the area, can significantly influence atmospheric circulation and further induce cloud fraction and RSDS changes (summarized in Fig. 7) across other regions and seasons.
