This Marubeni investment-backed plant, which was inaugurated on October 18, is the first large-scale solar power generation project in Qatar, with a maximum output of 800 MW. The power generated will be sold to Qatar’s General Electricity & Water Corporation Kahramaa under a long-term contract of 25 years.
The inauguration marked the completion of the construction works and the startup of the plant, which is now connected to Qatar's national grid. The project, built in two 400 MW phases, covers 10 km 2 and includes more than 1.8 million solar panels. It is expected to reduce emissions by 26 MtCO 2 during its lifespan.
