Ethiopia has a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to export up to 400 MW of power to Kenya through EEP. In May 2022, Ethiopia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with South Sudan to export 100 MW of power over the next three years.
Approximately 30,000 MW is estimated to be economically feasible which is equivalent to an electricity generation of 162 TWh . The current production of 3.98 TWh thus equals to an exploitation of only 2.5%. In general, Ethiopia’s terrain is advantageous for hydropower projects.
