Frazium Energy has signed a contact with the Eswatini government to develop a solar PV and storage project. The first phase is expected to consist of a 25-30MW solar PV component with a 100MW lithium-ion battery, supplying about 100GWh/yr at a cost of $115m, according to chief executive Robert Frazer.
Following two and a half years of negotiations, the Government of Eswatini has signed a contract with renewable power producer Frazium Energy (FZM) for a 100MW solar park. The contract allows FZM to

Eswatini Energy Regulatory Authority (ESERA) has recently issued an intention to award three 15 MW Solar PV projects to Globeleq/ Sturdee Energy Southern Africa consortium and ACED after a bidding process that began in 2019.
Frazium Energy – part of the Australian-German Frazer Solar group – has signed a 40-year contract with the government of the Southern African kingdom of Eswatini (formerly known as Swaziland) for a €100 million ($115 million) solar battery project.
ESERA is currently undertaking a competitive IPP procurement program for 40MW solar PV (phase 1) and 40MW biomass (phase 2) generation. Access to the grid and priority dispatch is given to electricity generated from renewable energy sources based on least cost or procured through competitive bidding.
The Eswatini Energy Regulatory Authority (ESERA) has confirmed that the construction of projects in line with the 75MW Solar PV generating capacities will begin at the end of 2024. This follows announcement last month by ESERA of its intention to award contracts to preferred bidders for 75MW Solar PV generation capacities in line with Section
Eswatini plans to issue a request for proposals "very, very soon" for a 40MW solar PV project, energy minister Peter Bhembe told the Africa Energy Indaba conference in Cape Town on 3-4 March. The ministry began prequalification for the project in June last year in an effort to reduce reliance on imports from South Africa.
Following two and a half years of negotiations, the Government of Eswatini has signed a contract with renewable power producer Frazium Energy (FZM) for a 100MW solar park. The contract allows FZM to operate the large scale solar-storage IPP project in

Power Africa has supported the development of 10 megawatts (MW) of electricity generation projects in Eswatini. Power Africa's involvement in the country is further explained on the following page, which gives an overview of the energy sector in Eswatini.
Although Eswatini's electrification rates are relatively high, they are still a long way off 100% (the country's target for 2022). Solar power is the most viable solution for Eswatini to help meet its electrification goals and save costs down the line.
Overview Eswatini Energy Company (“EEC”) is Eswatini’s main power generating, transmitting, and distribution company.
Despite being one of Africa’s smallest countries, Eswatini has an impressive, diverse topography and climate. Unfortunately, its electricity infrastructure is not reliable.
The Eswatini Electricity Company has funds available for the project. This tender will therefore include installation of the equipment as specified in the Scope of the Tender and intends to apply the funds to eligible payments under the Contract for which this Invitation to Tender is issued.
The energy development in Eswatini is guided by the National Energy Policy of 2018. Since then, the country’s energy sector has been undergoing rapid transformation with the liberalization of the electricity sector to encourage private sector investment.
