The European Union''s offshore energy strategy, presented in 2020, envisages an increase in European generation capacity in offshore wind farms from the current 12 GW to at least 60 GW until 2030 and to 300 GW until 2050.
The shareholders of Mainstream Renewable Power ("Mainstream") and Aker Offshore Wind have entered an agreement to combine the two companies to create a stronger renewable company with a 27 GW portfolio across solar, onshore wind and bottom-fixed and floating offshore wind projects.

Companies Liivi Offshore, Aker Offshore Wind Europe, Viru Keemia Group, Sunly Wind, Edel Offshore Wind and the partnership between Ignitis Renewables and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) submitted their applications back in 2020, with the seventh developer being Utilitas Wind who submitted and last updated its application in June.

The Norway-based offshore wind development company has agreed to sell a portion of its interest in Principle Power to EDP Renovaveis SA (ELI:EDPR) and EDP Ventures SGPS, both part of the Portuguese energy group. This move is seen to have a positive cash impact on Aker Offshore Wind of about NOK 100 million (USD 11.3m/EUR 9.9m).
