The Ministry of Power and State Minister of Solar, Wind and Hydro Power Generation Projects Development has launched a community based power generation project titled ''Soorya Bala Sangramaya'' (Battle for Solar Energy) in collaboration with Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA), Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and Lanka Electricity
To bolster low-carbon electricity generation in Sri Lanka, there is considerable opportunity to expand on solar energy, given its already substantial contribution and the country''s conducive climate conditions.

We transform underutilized land into long-term utility-scale solar projects. We design, finance, install and operate solar projects and enable utilities, retail energy providers, and corporate energy buyers to achieve their renewable energy goals without increasing the cost.
Through partnerships with landowners, building owners, and investors, SunCode is committed to providing the most efficient and affordable clean energy solutions to business owners, corporates, utilities, and communities worldwide.
SunCode LLC ("SunCode Energy") is an experienced renewable energy development and investment company headquartered in Irvine California, with regional offices in many states in the United States and an extensive international footprint. Specialized in developing energy projects from concept to asset, the SunCode team has
Solar Energy. Energy can be harnessed directly from the sun, though only slightly during cloudy weather. Solar energy is used worldwide and is increasingly popular for generating electricity or heating and desalinating water. Solar power is generated in two main ways:

With sunshine abundant in Sri Lanka, solar provides one of the biggest rays of hope for this green transition. Through its Nationally Determined Contributions, the Sri Lankan government has pledged that 70% of its energy will come from renewable sources by 2030.
Sri Lanka witnessed a nearly 60 % increase in solar power generation (approximately from 20 GWh to 140 GWh) post-2016 primarily resulting from the launch of the government-backed ''Battle for Solar Energy'' campaign which aimed to add 1000 MW via solar power by 2025 (Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority, 2022).

Moreover, the government of Sri Lanka has given the solar and wind power sections a zero tax to encourage greater contribution which has resulted in over 200MW generated to the country's national grid and creating over 10,000 jobs (Economy Next, 2019).
Furthermore, Sri Lanka’ has also seen an increase in the energy generated through bioenergy sources (geothermal, biomass and waste energy) with this segment producing approximately 250 GWh of energy by 2020. However, despite its potential, solar energy has had an uninspiring growth until 2016.
The Sri Lankan government aims to achieve 70 percent electricity production by renewable sources by 2030 and net carbon zero by 2050. The objective is to increase the power generation capacity of the country from the existing 4,043 megawatts (MW) to 6,900 MW by 2025 with a significant increase in renewable energy.
When looking from a historical standpoint, the Stockholm Environmental Conference in 1972 provided the impetus for the Sri Lankan government to start looking at alternative energy, and solar energy was considered a strong option by the ministry-appointed committee in 1975.
Sri Lanka receives significant amount of solar radiation across all geographical regions. The Global Horizontal Irradiance (GHI) varies between 1,247 kWh/m 2 to 2,106 kWh/m 2. It is interesting to note that the intensity of solar irradiation in lowland areas is high compared to mountainous regions.
