Around 39.3% from hydropower, 39.1% from nuclear and thermal power, 12.1% from wind power and 9.5% from biomass & waste and solar energy. Around 58% of total electricity generation is from renewable energy resources .
Coordinating hydropower and wind power satisfies hourly operation requirement. Swedish government’s target is to have 100% renewable electricity production by 2040. Currently, hydropower contributes the majority of renewable electricity generation of the country. The wind power capacity has increased significantly in the past decade.
Corresponding to about 12% of Sweden’s total hydropower production. As the share of weather-dependent electricity generation (such as wind and solar power) in the electricity system increases, the role of hydropower will be even more important in the future, thanks to its unique contribution of renewable baseload power and balancing capacity.
