Tesla's Powerpack batteries have been deployed in the Philippines, helping a local solar company construct a 2MW/*2MWh micro-grid for the town of Paluan. The project, which went online in December, gives the town round-the-clock electric power for the first time. Tesla has helped the town, which has suffered from notorious power outages for years.

According to a report from Energy Storage News, Solar Philippines believes that a 2MW/2Mwh solar power project will be sufficient to provide reliable power to the town’s residents 24 hours a day at 50% less than the usual electricity costs.
“Our goal is to put solar panels on every single rooftop in the Philippines,” company president Leandro Leviste was quoted while attending the 2018 Asia Clean Energy Forum, which took place in Manila earlier this month. Solar Philippines intends to build solar-storage microgrids in rural towns across the country this year.
Solar Philippines isn’t alone. One of the Philippines’ largest power producers, AboitIzPower has been a large and active presence in the island nation’s power market for more than 80 years. Management in April announced it was entering the Philippines’ distributed, retail solar energy market.
