This is a big step forward for Solomon Islands in the path of renewable energy with a specially positive outcome for rural areas. It paves the way for the Government of Solomon towards a more comprehensive renewable energy strategy and policy, and a big economic boost for both community and school.
Solomon Power (formerly Solomon Islands Electricity Authority (SIEA)) with assistance of Asian Development Bank (ADB) proposes to develop and operate grid connected solar-diesel- battery hybrid power stations in several provincial centres in the Solomon Islands.
The Solomon Islands Renewable Energy Development Project will finance two photovoltaic (PV) parks and a utility-scale grid-connected energy storage system in the Solomon Islands. The Asian Development Bank, the Saudi Fund for Development and Solomon Power are financing the project.

The Republic of the Solomon Islands consists of over 1,000 islands inhabited by a total population of 609,883. Approximately 90% of the electricity produced is diesel generated. The one megawatt solar PV plant, which was expanded from 600kW following a grant from the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, bolster energy resilience
We are excited to share that we have commenced the construction of 220kW solar plant at Solomon Power head office rooftop. This is funded by the World Bank and is being constructed by JGH GROUP and the subcontractor Superfly Limited.
