Onshore marine energy developer, Eco Wave Power (EWPG Holding AB) installs a new combined wave and solar system in the EWP grid connected wave energy power station in Gibraltar, in line with its'' newly submitted patent for a combined wave and solar power station
Eco Wave Power is recognized as a "Pioneering Technology" by the Israeli Ministry of Energy and was labeled as an "Efficient Solution" by the Solar Impulse Foundation. Eco Wave Power''s project in Gibraltar has received funding from the European Union Regional Development Fund and the European Commission''s Horizon 2020 framework program.
Gibraltar''s location offers significant potential to use renewable energies to meet its growing energy needs and reduce its carbon footprint. The ECOWAVE pilot project developed wave energy devices that successfully generate electricity and connect simply to the grid.
The success of EWP''s Gibraltar wave energy power station has proven that wave energy is a viable source of clean electricity, and that it can be built in cost-effective and in a reliable manner. The commercialization of wave energy, a vast untapped renewable resource, has the potential to transform the world''s energy mix and significantly

The demand for renewable forms of energy, such as solar, has never been greater. Our technology enables customers and utilities to harness energy efficiently— wherever they choose to build. We are expanding the possibilities of what solar can be and helping contribute to a more responsible and energy-independent future.
In 2016, Eco Wave Power (EWP) installed its first grid-connected wave energy array in Gibraltar. The array is the first part of a 5MW Power Purchase Agreement that was entered into between EWP, the Government of Gibraltar and GibElectric (the National Electric company of Gibraltar).
Between 2016 and March 2022, Eco Wave Power operated a grid-connected proof-of-concept wave energy array in Gibraltar, as part of a 5 MW Power Purchase Agreement that EWP signed with the Government of Gibraltar and Gibraltar''s National Electric Company, GibElectric.
As part of the works performed, Eco Wave Power integrated eight solar panels, on the surface of its eight floaters, operational in Gibraltar. Each panel has the installed capacity of 330 watts; thus, all eight panels have an installed capacity of 2.640 kw.

According to the agreement between Eco Wave Power and the Government of Gibraltar, the pilot was built and originally supposed to operate only for two years, with the purpose of proving that wave energy can safely connect to the grid and withstand the Gibraltar storms, using its storm-protection mechanism.
In May, 2016, EWP and the Government of Gibraltar held an official opening ceremony of the newly constructed wave energy power station on the east side of Gibraltar. Now, at a former World War II Ammunition Jetty, sits the initial 100KW of a 5MW power station.
Following the completion of the testing phase of the combined wave and solar power station in Eco Wave Power’s research and development power station in the port of Jaffa, Israel, Eco Wave Power decided to expand the testing of the combined solution to its largest grid connected wave energy facility to date, in Gibraltar.
With completion of installation, Eco Wave Power will be commencing long term testing of the newly installed equipment, with the vision of reviewing the possibility of integrating solar panels in all its future installations.
