Tonga cuenta con un gran potencial para la generación de energía a partir de fuentes renovables, como la energía solar, eólica y geotérmica. La radiación solar en el país es elevada durante todo el año, lo que lo convierte en un lugar ideal para la instalación de paneles solares.
Prime Minister of Tonga today announced the official launch of the 6-MW power purchase agreement (PPA) based Tongatapu Solar Farm located at Fualu, Tongatapu, which has supplied electricity to over 10,336 households since August this year.
A medida que la industria fotovoltaica (PV) continúa evolucionando, los avances en energía solar fotovoltaica tonga se han vuelto fundamentales para optimizar la utilización de fuentes de energía renovables.
"In Tonga, we have taken the decision of building of renewable capacity by 70% by 2030 and solar will be a key driver for achieving our targets. The role of ISA will be crucial in helping the countries strengthen their NDCs and to chart a roadmap for achieving their climate action targets," Hon Tei said.
Tonga''s renewable energy options, energy demand, energy conservation options and donor and institutional requirements were produced forming the basis of the "Tonga Energy Road Map 2010 - 2020" (TERM). The TERM sets out a ten year road map to reduce Tonga''s vulnerability to oil price shocks and achieve an increase in quality access to modern
Hybrid energy supply for an island chain in Vava''u, Kingdom of Tonga. The Kingdom of Tonga is an archipelago in the South Pacific. The islanders'' electricity is supplied by diesel generators, which are an expensive energy source. With more than 1,500 hours of sunshine annually, Tonga has an additional source of energy: the sun.
Tonga has set ambitious renewable energy goals, aiming to generate 50% of its electricity from green sources by 2020 and increase this to 70% by 2030. These targets are motivated by the
The largest solar plant in the south Pacific will be built in Tonga through the country''s second commercially financed public-private partnership after an agreement was signed in Nuku''alofa today.
Tonga has set ambitious renewable energy goals, aiming to generate 50% of its electricity from green sources by 2020 and increase this to 70% by 2030. These targets are motivated by the desire to minimize the country''s dependence on imported diesel, which currently fuels approximately 90% of its electricity generation.

The transition to renewable energy in Tonga is in progress, with the island''s government setting the goal of 50% renewable energy reliance by 2020 and 70% by 2030. The Green Climate Fund approved the Tonga Renewable Energy Project in October 2018.
Renewables like solar are a significant means for Tonga to expand energy access, stabilize power grids as well as reduce pollution. Considering the shortage of solar expertise and finances for countries like Togan, the role of independent power producers and the practice of PPA provide solid support to smooth the way for solar deployment.
As Hu'akavameiliku, Prime Minister of Tonga said at the ceremony: "The successful completion of the Sunergise's 6MW Independent Power Producer solar generation system today, demonstrates the major role renewable energy independent power producers play towards achieving our 70% target by [the] end of [the] year 2025."
Prime Minister of Tonga today announced the official launch of the 6-MW power purchase agreement (PPA) based Tongatapu Solar Farm located at Fualu, Tongatapu, which has supplied electricity to over 10,336 households since August this year.
This solar project was completed under the partnership between Sunergise New Zealand Limited and Tonga Power Limited with support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Sunergise led the construction and meanwhile united local Tongan civil, mechanical and electrical sub-contractors to the team.
Statistics show that, as of 2020, nearly all electricity in Tonga came from fossil fuels. As an island country with a total surface area of merely 290 sq mi, Tongan's power generation heavily relies on imported fossil fuels.
