The Government of Egypt has provided 37.2km² of land to NREA in Benban, in the town of Daraw Markaz of Upper Egypt, for the development of the Benban solar park. The 41 solar power plants will be developed on plots ranging from 0.3km² to 1.0km² in size. Each plant will be equipped with photovoltaic (PV) panels.

Benban Solar Park is a photovoltaic power station with a total capacity of 1650 MW nominal power which corresponds to an annual production of approximately 3.8 TWh. It is located in Benban ( Aswan Governorate ) in the western desert, approximately 650 km south of Cairo and 40 km northwest of Aswan . [ 1 ]
The solar energy is the most important source of energy on the globe, Egypt geographically lies between latitudes 22 and 31.5 north, so Egypt is at the heart of the global solar belt, and thus it is one of the richest world countries in solar energy.

1 天前· We inaugurated the Abydos Solar Power Plant in Aswan (560 MW), part of #Egypt''s #NWFE Program. Since 2022, we secured over $4.5bn to implement projects with a 4.7 GW total capacity within NWFE.
It is located in Benban (Aswan Governorate) in the western desert, approximately 650 km south of Cairo and 40 km northwest of Aswan. Benban is currently the 4th largest solar power plant in the world. In September 2014, the project was initiated as part of Egyptian government's Sustainable Energy Strategy 2035.
The biggest chunk of Egyptian solar capacity is provided by the Benban project, which lies 50 km from Aswan and is one of the world’s biggest PV sites. Official figures on its capacity vary from 1.4 GW up to 1.8 GW, with the confusion apparently centering on the scope for expansion of some individual elements.
The solar energy project was launched in 2015, in accordance with Presidential Decree No. 274/2014. 13. The investment project cost about 40 billion Egyptian pounds. 14. The project will be built on an area of 8843.3 acres on the "Aswan - Cairo" desert road in front of the village of "Benban".
This goal is possible, in part, due to Egypt’s location. Egypt averages between 9 and 11 hours of sunshine per day, with a radiation intensity between 2,000 and 3,000 kilowatt-hours per square meter. By continuing to provide feed-in tariffs to developers, Egypt will be able to attract foreign investment in large-scale wind and solar projects.
The solar energy is the most important source of energy on the globe, Egypt geographically lies between latitudes 22 and 31.5 north, so Egypt is at the heart of the global solar belt, and thus it is one of the richest world countries in solar energy.
Perhaps the largest lasting impacts of the Benban solar farm is the evidence of viability for large-scale solar projects in Egypt. Feed-in-tariffs backed by the Egyptian government will reduce risk and promote private investment in further renewable projects.
