Tel Aviv, Israel, Mar. 10, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- Sungrow, the global leading inverter and energy storage system solution supplier, forged a contract together with Afcon to supply the company''s latest liquid cooled energy storage system solution to a 16 MW/64 MWh project in Israel.
Last year the Israeli government introduced its goal of generating 30% of its electricity needs via renewables by 2030. Solar PV is expected to contribute to most of it, corresponding to 26% of Israel''s renewable electricity in 2030, indicating 12 GW to 15 GW of new PV installations in the coming decade.
The storage capacity of 127 MWh is set to significantly bolster Israel''s renewable energy infrastructure and further cement Sungrow''s position as the country''s leading ESS supplier with a market share of over 40 percent.

For Israel, solar energy presents an incredible opportunity to bolster energy resilience: Utilizing Abundant Sunlight: With over 300 sunny days a year, Israel is perfectly placed to harness solar energy efficiently. Reducing External Dependence: By investing in solar systems, Israel can cut down on the need for imported fuels.

Having deployed 3,591MW of solar as of the end of 2021, that figure will jump to 9,800MW by 2025 and 17,145MW by the end of the decade under the new roadmap, published by Israel’s electricity authority and energy ministry yesterday.
Similarly, more than 90% of about 6 GW of renewables installed today in Israel are PV systems. Israel’s wind energy resources are less strong, resulting in fewer wind power installations.
Renewable energy covered 12.5% of Israel’s electricity demand last year, up from 10.1% in 2022. Given the country’s steady increase of annual electricity demand and in order to maintain these rates, Israel needs to continue to add significant amounts of green power, said the Electricity Authority.
The Electricity Authority has also noted that the increase in electricity demand in Israel is higher than other Western countries due to reasons such as the rising population and relatively high economic growth. Renewable energy covered 12.5% of Israel’s electricity demand last year, up from 10.1% in 2022.
