5 天之前· France''s TotalEnergies and Omani energy company OQ Alternative Energy have signed agreements to develop 100 MW of solar and two 100 MW wind projects. Construction will begin in early 2025.
Solar energy is a vital and strategic solution for the provision of electric power in the Sultanate of Oman. Given the vast unused land and available solar energy resources, Oman has an excellent potential for solar energy development and deployment.
Rystad Energy, a Norwegian based independent research and energy intelligence company, named Oman among a tiny handful of regional players that are tipped to fuel the growth of solar-based renewables in the region.

While the locations of the 2029 and 2030 Solar IPPs are yet undecided, Sinaw in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate is tipped to host a 250 – 300 MW
MUSCAT: Applications for the installation of small and medium-scale grid-connection solar PV projects nearly doubled in 2023 alone, underscoring the rising appeal of cost-competitive renewable energy, particularly among residential and commercial customers in the Sultanate of Oman.
The study results showed that solar energy has been the only source of renewable energy production levels in Oman since 2017, while other forms have not been adequately explored. It was also found that, during recent years, the country has unveiled ambitious renewable production plans leading to an investment in several megawatts (MW) of

SolarPower Europe has urged Oman to pursue greater integration of renewable energy, liberalize its market structure, and optimize grid infrastructure to meet its ambitious net-zero targets.
OQ Alternative Energy LLC (OQAE) and TotalEnergies Renewables Development Middle East LLC (TTE) plan to develop the proposed North Oman Solar PV Project, located in Qarn Al Alam, in the Wilayat of Adam, Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah, Sultanate of Oman.
As clearly indicated in Table 3, the total reported solar energy consumptions in Oman as in 2017 is estimated to be at a maximum of 12 and 220 TJ, mostly from photovoltaic and heat sources, respectively . Other potential renewable energy resources, such as wind, geothermal, waves, and biogas, have been found to be abundant in Oman.
Oman benefits from some of the highest solar radiation levels in the world and is well placed to take advantage of the transition to renewable energy. A pilot scheme to install roof top solar in the first 3,000 homes in Muscat is underway with a full roll out of the scheme expected by the end of 2020.
SolarPower Europe has urged Oman to pursue greater integration of renewable energy, liberalize its market structure, and optimize grid infrastructure to meet its ambitious net-zero targets. The recommendations form part of the “ Oman Solar investment opportunities ” report, the latest work from SolarPower Europe’s Global Markets unit.
Solar energy is a viable option in Oman given the vast unused land and available solar energy resources. It could not only cater to the growing need for energy diversification but also help in economic diversification in Oman.
In January 2024, Oman launched a public tender for another 500 MW solar project, Ibri Solar III, with commercial operations due to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026. Public tenders are expected for three new solar projects and five wind projects between 2025 and 2029.
A particularly relevant and advantageous feature of solar energy adoption is that it creates jobs for Oman-is. The EIAA states that Europe’s solar industry has created over 150,000 jobs so far. Solar jobs come in many forms, from manufacturing, installing, monitoring and maintaining solar panels, to research and design. 5. Production Of
