Solar power interests spotlight potential Georgia growth of clean
Recently, state regulators approved Georgia Power''s plans to build another 1,000 megawatts of solar energy capacity. Butler said the solar industry is seeking to expand the energy market in the most cost efficient way to deliver more power to the grid.

Georgia Power has a solar purchase program, SP-1, for up to 100 kW systems which pays 17¢/kWh. A second meter is installed for the solar generation, all of which is purchased by Georgia Power. The consumer then purchases back any electricity consumed as if they did not have solar power.

Georgia has a particularly healthy solar industry, ranking third behind Florida and North Carolina in the seven-state region in 2022, according to a 2023 Southern Alliance for Clean Energy (SACE) report. Georgia Power and Oglethorpe Power are both in the top 10 solar providers in the Southeast.
