The accumulation of dust and aggregation on the surfaces of the PV panels cause a haze of solar irradiation and acts as a shadow; leading to increase the temperature of the PV. The temperature, in turn, reduces the efficiency and performance of PV ( Kazem et al., 2017 ).

Safety precautions: Before cleaning, ensure that your solar panel system is turned off and that the panels are cool to the touch to prevent any potential electrical hazards or thermal shock. Allow the panels to air dry naturally or
After cleaning the PV panel, the PV panel will restore its full efficiency and will produce clean energy that can then be distributed (SDG 7). On the other hand, using natural resources to clean PV panels will limit economic growth (SDG 8).
Non-availability of proper cleaning and insolation methods can cause significant loss in PV system efficiency. Kazem et al. reported that the electrical efficiency of the solar panels drops from 16% to 8% if they were not cleaned for 45 days, and after applying appropriate cleaning methods the PV cell will restore its original efficiency.
One of the disadvantages of this method is that it does not completely clean the PV as this cleaning process leaves behind the dust attached to the PV surface resulting from its interaction with the moisture of the atmosphere. These adhesion molecules usually require heavy rain to remove.
Dust is one of the essential parameters that affect PV panel performance, yield, and profitability. However, the dust characteristics (type, size, shape, meteorology, etc.) is geographical site specified. Many researchers investigated PV panel dust cleaning and mitigation methods.
Other dust removal methods can hurt the solar panel's surfaces such as scratches, mechanical damage, and scars due to direct contact activities such as brushing or applying high water intensity, however, electrostatic cleaning does not possess this disadvantage as it is a non-contact mechanism .
Testing several dust types on the edge of the PV panel disclosed that dust, like “ash” and “soil”, causes a temperature rise of the panel compared to other dust types. They also experimentally measured losses from 10%–16% in power when dust accumulates on the bottom edging of the solar panel.
