I ordered a WisBlock Meshtastic Starter Kit and received it a few days ago. I built out my setup with a 6w 5V solar panel and 2P 18650 3.7v batteries. After installation the RED LED indicating the solar charger was charging seemed to work fine. The voltage increased from 3.7v to 3.75v sometime since then, so it was charging the battery.
Meshtastic is a wonderful project for creating decentralised text-based communication networks for local communities using low power (and low cost) Lora radios.Fun fact — the Meshtastic logo appears to reference the chirp modulation used by Lora.. The best way to learn about the project is to explore the forum, join the Discord server and the Reddit
If you''re aiming for a solar-powered setup, the WisBlock Meshtastic Starter Kit is a strong choice. It features connectors for both a battery and solar panel, making it easy to integrate into off-grid, long-term use. Powered by the nRF52840 chip, its extreme power efficiency makes it perfect for solar nodes.
2. Select the Right Solar Charger. Look for a portable solar charger that can provide enough power to keep your LoRa devices charged. Here are a few things to consider when choosing a solar charger: Power Output: A solar panel with a power output of 5 watts or more should be sufficient for charging small devices like LoRa radios. Some panels have built

Solar panel is from a trail camera i had. It has an internal pouch battery(1700mah) i also added another battery inside it, same type. Solar panel is rated 1.8w, but i really think it''s half under good circumstances. Since the solar panel outputs 6v i added a diode with voltage drop of 0.7v so the input is about 5.3v.

TLDR: Meshtastic is an open-source, decentralized mesh communication protocol that enables long-range, low-power, and secure communication between devices. Solar nodes are self-powered devices that use solar energy to operate continuously and extend the reach and reliability of Meshtastic networks, particularly in remote or off-grid locations.
